About us

Welcome to Lakunakai

Trauma is messy and so is an overstimulated nervous system.

Hello! I’m Cherie the Founder of Lakunakai. Many would describe me as a mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend, business owner, and a natural problem solver.

For several years, I thrived in the real estate and financing sectors, assisting clients in overcoming obstacles to achieve their goals. These industries were fast-paced and high-pressure, demanding exceptional problem-solving abilities, communication skills and I truly enjoyed every challenge. However, in 2021, our family became a medical family, and the demands of being everything to everyone just wasn’t possible to achieve, leading me to take a step back.

Lakunakai is a bit of a passion project. One that has allowed me to share my knowledge on how to navigate trauma and work with an overstimulated nervous system. Supportive Little Buddies were born as a way to teach both parent and child foundational knowledge derived from neuroscience, psychology and emotional intelligence so they could build a good foundation and pull themselves out of the grips of trauma. I wish I had them when I was a child, though in all fairness I did have a buddy just one without these skills broken down.

I invite you to follow us and share our content with those you may feel could benefit from what we do.

Why we are called Lakunakai?

Lacuna means a missing portion in a book or manuscript.

Kai means 'keeper of the keys and earth' and in Japanese it has a few meanings but the ones we were drawn to are ocean, restoration and recovery.

Goal: If each of us can find the missing page in our manuscript, then we can become the master of our own sea (as in ourselves).

A clapotis wave is formed by two colliding wave patterns, for example one from the west and the other from the east. Like a clapotis wave, when life events collide with one another, sometimes it can result in what feels like a standing wave that is much higher and contains a lot of energy - just like how trauma can overwhelm the central nervous system. After the collision of the waves, the wave collapses and a new pattern must be formed.

Just like our supportive little buddy's, our founder has hand drawn our logo.

Why a wave logo?
